Leaders Matter More Than Ever

Leadership will become even more important to organizations in the future, not only for revenue but also team management, caring for the well-being of their team, encouraging them to learn and grow, and putting the organization's culture into practice. The term "leader" commonly means a "chief". But leaders won’t always need to be appointed. 83% of executives view leadership as a quality of employees at all levels.

McKinsey outlines 5 key shifts from positional leadership to behavioral leadership for the well-being of employees and organizations:

1. Change of purpose: from profit-making to creating new possibilities and positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

2. Shifting values: from competition and planning to win to creating things together.

3. Management style change: from command to cooperation.

4. Change the way it works: from controlling to getting the desired results, with coaching to learn, change, discover new things.

5. Change the way you present yourself: from conformity to meeting expectations and sincerity.

Leaders also play a crucial role in driving a culture of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) within teams and organizations for employees to feel their self-worth, feel respected and feel supported. According to the survey, 76% of current employees expect more mental support within their organization. 47% feel more motivated to work when they feel part of the organization.

This will be a transition from an era of individual leaders to an era of networked leadership teams driving the organization.

Implications for the future:

- Future organizations will pay more attention to measuring employee leadership to find links to productivity within the team job satisfaction and the financial situation of the organization.

- Human resources will give more importance to supervisor positions to ensure leaders not only manage teams but manage them to have good health and be ready to be a high-potential workforce.

- Training of executives and supervisors will gain more importance in both real-world learning and virtual simulations.

- Organizational leadership has changed to influencing others to drive the organization in the desired direction.
